Scientific research shows that these experiences, especially when experienced during critical and sensitive periods of development, is a root cause to some of the most harmful, persistent, and expensive health challenges facing our nation.

Key Findings

In California 61.7 of adults have experienced at lease one ACE and one in six, or 16.7 have experienced four or more ACEs. The most common ACE among California adults in emotional (or verbal) abuse.
